3 Na Massa is a new project cooked up by by producer Rica Amabis of the S“o Paulo-based collective Instituto and bassist Dengue and drummer Pupillo of the seminal Pernambuco rock band NaÁ“o Zumbi. Conceived as a kind of soundtrack to the erotic comic book frames of Italian artist Milo Manara, the musicians intended to penetrate the female universe by writing songs in the feminine voice as Chico Buarque is known to do. The menís imaginations were fueled by womenís intimate, uncensored conversations about their amorous experiences ----- moments of seduction, moments of desire, moments that marked their lives.

Some of Brazilís best-known singers and actresses including CÈU, Nina Miranda (Smoke City), Thalma de Freitas (Orquestra Imperial), Karine Carvalho (soap opera star), Nina Becker and Alice Braga (ìCity of Godî, "Blindness") were recruited to create vocal characters for each the albumís thirteen tracks.

Despite the unmistakable vocal presence of pioneering reggae deejay U-Roy, Love Trio is not a reggae band. And despite this albumís appearance at first glance, it is not a remix album. The Dark Mixes, is a heavier, deeper mix of the album that came before. Itís an album for a later night. And though thereís a strong reggae influence in the music Love Trio makes, they are much much more. They are true musical globalists. Their sound is an inclusive hybrid of the electronic, jazz and dub worlds, with a generous assortment of other influences creeping in at the edges.

The Dark Mixes gives their previous effort a more textured vibe and provides a darker backdrop for the multitude of influences that define each selection. Itís a taste of the late night Nublu sound, and itís a deep, soulful vibe.

Two songs from the latest "Bonfires of Sao Joao" album by Forro in the Dark are featured in Bill Plympton's "Idiots and Angels" which will be premiering at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The film is one of 122 feature films selected out of over 2,300 submissions. "Idiots and Angels" is a dark comedy about a man's battle for his soul.
